Reviews
“The Shanling M1 Plus is a pleasant surprise. A straightforward player that packs a lot of power into a perfectly crafted case, staying true to the brand’s principles from top to bottom. It’s essentially a compact version of the M5 Ultra—lighter, shorter, and quite versatile. Sure, you miss out on streaming options and need to load it with music, but its responsiveness makes it very appealing.
Just fill a micro-SD card, plug it in, and pair it with quality headphones (like Meze or Beyer) or some great IEMs (such as the FiiO FF5 or the S12 Pro), and you’ll have a perfect portable setup! The only real drawback might be the battery life, but with fast-charging now integrated, it’s hardly an issue.
A solid choice for those seeking a direct, no-fuss DAP…” Headfonia Review >>
“The M1 Plus is visually attractive, affordable, performant, and surprisingly versatile DAP. it contains a lot of other features I’ll never use, like support for Airplay and the Eddict Player companion app. It reflects much of what I’ve come to love about Shanling DAPs, and I’ll happily recommend it…” Headphonics Review >>
Features
A DAP that fits in the palm of your hand
The first thing that stands out about the Shanling M1 Plus is its compact size. Designed to take you wherever you go without weighing you down, the DAP measures just 86x61x17mm. In terms of weight, the M1 Plus weighs just 116g. So it’s easy to forget, so you can enjoy your music to the full.
Shanling has made no concessions to ergonomics, however, and has integrated a magnificent 3.2″ 480x320px high-definition touch screen. This gives you easy access to your music and all the available settings. The screen is housed behind curved tempered glass and the components are protected by a superb 100% aluminum CNC-machined case.
Fast, intuitive navigation
Like its predecessor, the Shanling M1 Plus is based on the Mtouch operating system, providing access to a wide range of useful functions. It’s powered by an Ingenic X2000 processor, ensuring smooth browsing in all circumstances.
Technology at the service of sound
In terms of sound, the M1 Plus incorporates an ESS ES9069Q DAC. These provide seamless, high-quality digital/analogue conversion up to PCM 32 bit / 768kHz and DSD512.
This converter is combined with a high-performance amplification section with two SGM8262 amplifier chips delivering output power of 195mW @ 32 Ohm (Single-ended 3.5mm jack) and 660mW @ 32 Ohm (Balanced 4.4mm jack). This combination enables this small DAP to offer an SNR of 122dB and a distortion rate of 0.0007%.
Boundless connectivity
While the Shanling M1 Plus naturally has a 3.5mm jack for conventional connection to your headphones, it also offers Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity for even greater convenience. Bluetooth connectivity with Sony LDAC and Qualcomm aptX technologies.
The first of these technologies, LDAC, enables Bluetooth users to enjoy Hi-Res Audio files at up to 24bit 96kHz 4.5Mbps, where conventional Bluetooth would only allow 16bit 44.1Hz compressed audio. The second technology, aptX, enables transmission with less latency and greater stability, to deliver a clean signal.
Furthermore, the M1 Plus features bi-directional Bluetooth 5.2. So, while it can transmit to a speaker or headphones, it can also be used as a receiver, to take advantage of its amplification and DAC from a third-party source.
Furthermore, the M1 Plus can connect to a WiFi network to use AirPlay and DLNA technologies. A 4.4mm balanced jack is also available for exceptional quality headphone listening.
Bi-directional USB-C
In the same vein, this player also features a bi-directional USB-C port. Just like Bluetooth, this port is capable of receiving or sending audio data. Ideal for taking advantage of the device’s audio performance.
