HDMI Converters & Cables
HDMI Converters & Cables
HDMI, in its all its glory, has profoundly changed the audio video world offering high resolution audio and high definition video through a single cable.
HDMI has been out for sometime, has gone through a few updates and advancements, and is well set to become the one and only standard on your display devices as time goes on.
So where does this leave your older legacy equipment which don’t use HDMI?
If you’ve just spent a large sum on a new TV, without realising you’ll need to upgrade all your other components – you may be in for a shock. New TV’s in most cases feature none of the older inputs you might have been familiar with – no component video, no composite, no VGA, no DVI – this may be a one way ticket for your older sources to either the corner of your garage, trademe, or the scrap heap. Though it doesn’t have to be.
Using an older PC with only VGA or DVI output? No problem.
Still in love with your VCR and collection of VHS tapes? No problem.
Have a high quality, but older, AV receiver with only analog outputs/inputs? No issues there either.
Converting a DVI/Component/Composite/VGA signal to HDMI requires a converter device which is usually small, inexpensive, and sometimes doesn’t even require power – allowing it to hide away nicely behind a TV or source device.
You may also find, when trying to play audio through an older AV receiver or sound system from your TV, a digital to analog converter could be useful. Modern TV’s almost always have only digital audio ouput, so sending this to a sound system with only analog inputs will require one of these converters.
